The Friends was instrumental in the development and funding of the Environmental Interpretive Center (EIC). Through grants, donations and events like Nature’s Gallery, the Friends raised over $400,000 to build the building and create the exhibits. We worked with the Florida Park Service staff and with commercial exhibit creators to develop the information and designs for the exhibits. The Center opened in 2005.

The EIC houses a park orientation video, topographical map and aerial photograph, plus ecosystem dioramas of park habitats such as the piney woods, the jetty underwater life, and the marshlands.

Visitors also enjoy our butterfly, bird egg and sea shell collections, and the sea turtle nesting exhibit. There is a saltwater aquarium, a water safety exhibit, and information on the beach warning flag system, plus several displays that will pique the interest of history enthusiasts.
